South Carolina Unemployment Eligibility

 

The South Carolina unemployment eligibility criteria are designed to help people who are currently unemployed and looking for some financial assistance to help them get by until they find new employment.

 

The South Carolina unemployment eligibility requirements are as follows:  You must be currently unemployed through no fault of your own.  This means that you must have been laid off, and you won’t qualify if you quit your job.  You must have worked for an employer that had been paying taxes in your name.  You also have to have earned your benefits, meaning that you must have earned a minimum amount of wages during the 12-month period that occurred before the quarter that you were laid off.

South Carolina Unemployment Eligibility

 

If you meet the above South Carolina Unemployment eligibility criteria, which are in fact legal requirements, you may be eligible to receive unemployment insurance, but you won’t know until you have filed your claim.

 

If you meet the South Carolina unemployment eligibility and your claim is successful, you will receive a weekly benefit amount that is up to half of what your employment wages were, but you will not receive more than $326 per week.  In South Carolina, you are only eligible to claim benefits for up to a period of 26 weeks.

 

While you are claiming unemployment benefits, you will be required by law to be available for work and be able to prove that you are also actively seeking employment.  If you take a vacation or spend time in the hospital, you will not be eligible to draw benefits during this time.  If you are found not to be actively seeking employment, your benefits may be disqualified also, so it is important that you adhere to all the South Carolina unemployment eligibility requirements.
